• Dryer exhausts at the exterior must be cleared of any obstructions such as landscaping, snow, or lint/debris. The dampers with the weather protective covers, that should not have screens, should be maintained in working condition with no build up of lint or other debris throughout the vent to the exterior. (Especially when installed in close proximity to grade/pavers/pavement etc. like in the referenced picture) The dryer exhaust is also a common location where birds can create nests and rodents can enter.
• The routine maintenance of the dryer exhaust keeps the dryer functioning safely and avoids debris building up inside the vent which creates a fire hazard and can also cause the buildup of dangerous exhaust fumes inside the building.
Dryer ducts/connnectors at interior of building: • The dryer vent is required to be a 4 inch, smooth wall metal duct with a maximum length depending on the dryer manufacturers specifications with a weather protective damper at the exterior termination. The dryer can have a flexible connector for a maximum of 6 feet in length but cannot go through floors, ceilings or walls.
(Flexible connector in the picture is more than 6 feet in length and cannot be used in ceilings, walls or through floors, it must be visible.)
